SEXUAL DIVERSITY
Sexual diversity is a term used to refer to all the diversities of sex characteristics, sexual orientations and gender identities, without the need to specify each of the identities, behaviors or characteristics that form this plurality. Sexuality refers to the sexual feelings and attractions we have towards other people. There are many different types of sexuality and it can take a while for people to figure out what is right for them. All are perfectly normal and part of the broad range of human relationships and experiences. A person’s sexuality is a central part of who they are, and can influence their thoughts, feelings and actions. Diversity in sexual orientation is conventionally conceptualized as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, and transgender.
Safe@school is a blog, where we can identify different problems in a society. This blog refers to the problems of inclusion within a school. This blog talks about gender and sex diversity. However it is not the only thing that it refers, because in the right part of the blog we can find other tabs, in which ones we find information, reflections, activities and questions to be solved in the classroom. Finally, at the bottom of the page we find exercises and examples about the topic of preference in this case, sexual diversity, which ones can be used in class in order that students can inform themselves, reflect and share their ideas.

* This web page is a dictionary with many terms to refer to sexual diversity or the identity of a person. This page helps us make sense of the alphabet soup, and be as respectful and accurate as possible when using identifying language. This list is a work in progress toward those goals. With identity terms, trust the person who is using the term and their definition of it above any dictionary. These definitions are the creation of a cultural commons: emails, online discussions, and in-person chats, with the initial curation being mine. Identity terms are tricky, and trying to write a description that works perfectly for everyone using that label simply isn’t possible, but with this dictionary each student have the opportunity to learn and identify or say the appropriate name to a person depend on her/his identity.

Gender and Sexual Diversity in Schools book by Elizabeth J. Meyer is one of the best pedagogical tools that a teacher can use to identify problems related to gender and sexuality diversity in their school. This book shows us the progress of a culturally traditional school to a 21st century school. This book gives to educators and administrators a better understanding of how the interrelated system of sex, gender and sexuality impact students’ experiences and operates in school. The first section introduces five key areas that can have a significant influence on students’ experiences in schools. The second section gives examples from the curriculum, extracurricular activities and school structures to show how sexual and gender diversity are already present in schools. The final section provides an overview of seven philosophies of education.
Sexual diversity in nature by Joan Roughgarden, in this video we can see the innovative celebration of diversity and affirmation of individuality in animals and humans, Joan Roughgarden challenges accepted wisdom about gender identity and sexual orientation. A distinguished evolutionary biologist, Roughgarden takes on the medical establishment, the Bible, social science and even Darwin himself. She did a fascinating discussion of diversity in gender and sexuality among fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals, including primates. Evolution's Rainbow explains how this diversity develops from the action of genes and hormones and how people come to differ from each other in all aspects of body and behavior. Roughgarden reconstructs primary science in light of feminist, gay, and transgender criticism and redefines our understanding of sex, gender, and sexuality. Witty, playful, and daring, this video will revolutionize our understanding of sexuality.

" Same Love" By Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert
This song by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis bring forth issues of loving someone from the same sex, discrimination against that and race, and ties in religion as well. "If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me Have you read the YouTube comments lately? "Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily We become so numb to what we're saying A culture founded from oppression Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it Gay is synonymous with the lesser It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!" |
"Everything Possible" By The Flirtations
This song is meant to be like a lullaby sung about being loved no matter what you are. "Some girls grow up strong and bold Some boys are quiet and kind Some race on ahead, some follow behind Some grow in their own space and time Some women love women And some men love men" |
